The Сonvent in honour of the Presentation of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God was founded by a decree of Patriarch Nikon in 1658. Originally wooden, the Convent was built in the centre of the town's settlement. In the inventory of the town dated back to 1678, it is indicated that in the Sretensky Convent there were '20 cells with 44 sisters in them'. Stone construction began in the convent in 1689. Semyon Yershov sponsored the construction of the cold Sretensky Cathedral and a three-tier bell tower. The convent buildings are adjoined by a merchant palace of the 17th century (the Shiryaevs' (Shumilina's) House).
