The legend says that Ilya Muromets was infirm from birth and could not walk until he was 30 years old. One day wanderers passed by his house. They asked Ilya for water. Miraculously, the future hero managed to stand up. As advised by the wanderers, Ilya drank the water he had brought, after which he gained his strength.

It is believed that the spring itself was created by the hoof of Burushka, Ilya Muromets' horse. The spring water is considered to be healing.

In 1989, people started to use the spring for recreational purposes and a bathing area was built. There is a small chapel and a gift shop nearby.
