The Assumption Church

The stone Assumption Church was built in 1904-1910. The funds for its construction were provided by the Moscow industrialist and entrepreneur Ivan Pavlovich Kuznetsov. During the Soviet era, the church in Petushki was not closed. In the early 1930s, the large and small bells of the Assumption Church were removed and melted down. The Holy Dormition Church contains relics of the saints Athanasius of Kovrov, Theodore and John of Suzdal, Arseny of Ellason, and Nil Stolobensky. The interior of the church, with its carved oak iconostasis, is particularly valuable. Much of the church's decoration has remained unchanged since its opening in 1910.
