The Mstera Art Museum was founded in 1945.
A building of civil architecture from the middle of the 19th century was allocated for the museum. The museum was supposed to promote the new Soviet art of Mstera - lacquer painting on papier-mache, metal products with embroidery, embossing and engraving, artistic embroidery with white smoothness and Vladimir seams.
