Trading Rows (Gostiny Dvor)

Built in 1806-1811, the Trading Rows are the first Empire-style building in the city.

In 1788, a regular development plan for Suzdal was approved. According to this plan, the old wooden trading rows were to be replaced by a new stone guesthouse. Local merchants and shopkeepers were not pleased with this decision, for the simple reason that most of them simply did not have the money to build stone rows.

The fire that soon broke out in the guesthouse in Kazan delayed the construction of the Trading rows for several years. A ban on the construction of stone guesthouses was introduced throughout the country. But already in 1805, the order was given again to build new Trading rows in Suzdal.

The construction of the stone Trading Rows was started in 1806 and finished in 1811.

The Trading Rows became the decoration of Suzdal. The building housed more than a hundred merchant shops, which were later rebuilt into separate shops.

Красивое место, сердце Суздаля. Внутри гостиного двора есть много интересных сувенирных магазинов.
