Church of the Intercession on the Nerl
The temple is located just 1.5 km from the village of Bogolyubovo, where the palace of Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky once stood.
The Church of the Intercession on the Nerl was built on the orders of Andrey Bogolyubsky in 1165 (according to another version, in 1158). The place of construction was not chosen by chance. The temple was built on an artificial hill at the confluence of the Nerl and Klyazma rivers. The confluence of the Nerl river was at the crossroads of important trade routes and served as a gateway to the Vladimir land.
In 1992 the Church of Intercession on the Nerl was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
