History, Architecture and Art Museum of Yuriev-Polsky
The History, Architecture and Art Museum in Yuriev-Polsky is one of the best known provincial museums of Russia's Golden Ring. Located in the territory of the Michael the Archangel Monastery, the museum includes the displays that are dedicated to the history of the city, P.I. Bagration, a famous war chief, and the old Russian painting art.
Currently the museum houses 6 displays:
Art Exhibition. The main section features some early Russian paintings mostly represented by the collection of the 16th to 19th century icons. A collection of porcelain ware is displayed in four showcases.
P.I. Bagration is Russia's national hero. Natives of Vladimir during the 1812 War. All exhibited items, documents, photographs tell of the most hard war events that our motherland went through. One of the exhibition sections introduces guests to P.I. Bagration who was a great war chief.
Peasantry and Arable Farming in the Vladimir High Plains. The exhibits displayed in each of the eight halls are unique. For example, the first hall displays some extremely rare archaeological artefacts dating back to the 9th century: the only samples of temporal pendants, accessories in form of a house with goose feet, billon rings, noise-making foot decorations.
The 13th century St. George Cathedral is a unique monument of art of the Vladimir and Suzdal white stone architecture. More than 60 interestingly potted reliefs compose a lapidary exhibition. A part of this collection, the Svyatoslav's Cross is of great historical value.
Development of the Yuriev-Polsky Manufactory. The exhibits are displayed in a village log hut. These are items related to weaving: spinning wheels, spindles, rippling combs, samples of linen with prints dating back to the 18th century. The Yuriev seamstress shop and the office of the factory owners Ganshin are also located here.
Bell Tower Viewing Platform. The second floor of the bell tower houses the Monk's Cell exhibit. The third floor is a home of the Peal of Bells exhibition. The bell loft serves as a viewing platform for exploring the town outskirts.
