Dmitrievsky Cathedral

Dmitrievsky Cathedral is one of the most incredible monuments of the Russian Middle Ages. It was built in the 1190s as a palace temple of the great Vladimir Prince Vsevolod the Big Nest. In 1992, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

A truly unique exhibition has just opened at the Vladimir-Suzdal Reserve Museum in the Dmitrievsky Cathedral. The main exhibit is the ancient building itself, with its amazing architectural forms. The audiovisual programme with dynamic light accompaniment is a wonderful way to explore the content of the architecture of the Old Russian temple.

The cathedral was dedicated by the Grand Prince Vsevolod (baptised as Dmitry) to his heavenly patron saint, the Great Martyr Dmitry of Thessaloniki. The building was to look like a precious reliquary.
